A belly pan is one of the most popular upgrades for the Yamaha R9: it closes off the lower part of the bike and gives it a much more finished, race-style look. But the area under the engine is also where the exhaust runs, so the first question we get from R9 owners is always the same: will it fit with my exhaust?
Here's the short answer for the RaceLab Yamaha R9 Belly Pan.
Stock exhaust: not compatible
Our belly pan is designed for bikes running an aftermarket exhaust. With the stock Yamaha exhaust it is not compatible: the original system sits in a position where it can damage the belly pan. If you're still on the stock exhaust, we recommend fitting the belly pan once you've changed the exhaust.
Homologated exhausts (e.g. Akrapovič Euro 5+ with catalyst): small trim needed
Road-legal aftermarket systems such as the Akrapovič Euro 5+ with catalyst are compatible. They only need a small trim at the rear of the belly pan for a clean fit.
Long exhausts: all fit as is
If you run a long exhaust, the belly pan fits with no changes, whatever the brand.
Quick summary
- Stock exhaust: not compatible.
- Homologated aftermarket (e.g. Akrapovič Euro 5+ with cat): compatible with a small trim at the rear.
- Long exhausts: all compatible as is.
